John Thompson was a 14 year old delivery boy in 1924. One day the front wheel of his delivery bike was trapped in the tramlines and he toppled over. He took his load of meat back to the shop. The butcher washed, dried and repacked it.

John then delivered it to the customers.

I wonder what it tasted like?

Butcher's bike

The Delivery Bicycle was used to deliver all sorts of things, but was often called the 'butcher's bike'.

Parcels and packages of food were carried in the wicker basket in the special carrier over the front wheel.

Making deliveries

The Delivery Tricycle was like a cupboardA Delivery Tricycle
on wheels. Bread and cakes would be
protected from the rain, sun, snow and dust.

That way they were good to eat when the
delivery boy arrived.
